GCC Secretary General Stresses the Importance of Strategic Dialogue With Turkey

His Excellency Mr. Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met Ambassador Dr. Burak Akçapar, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, on Monday (April 10, 2023) at of the General Secretariat in Riyadh.
During the meeting, HE the Secretary General stressed the importance of strengthening the strategic dialogue between the GCC and the Republic of Turkey, and developing the Gulf-Turkish cooperation relations in all fields in a way that contributes to serving common interests, based on implementing the framework agreement on economic and technical cooperation signed between the two sides in 2005, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding for the strategic dialogue between them, signed in 2008.
The current international situation and the most prominent challenges and crises on the regional and international arenas were discussed during the meeting, while it was agreed to intensify the meetings of the joint technical teams that were formed under the framework of the joint action plan between the Cooperation Council and Turkey.
HE the Secretary General stated that the Gulf and Turkish sides aspire to setting a date for the sixth joint ministerial meeting of the strategic dialogue between the two sides, which will be held at the level of foreign ministers. His Excellency also noted to the decision of the GCC Ministerial Council during its 155th session regarding the resumption of dialogue between the two sides and top hold a joint meeting.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Dr Abdulaziz Hamad Aluwaisheg, Assistant Secretary General for Political and Negotiation Affairs at the General Secretariat of the GCC.
