With 10 days to go until the Modon World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi powered by TAQA, organisers are reminding the public to register their participation spots now to avoid disappointment.
Taking place at its new location, Al Hudayriyat Island, on February 15 and 16, the annual triathlon event will see some of the world’s best triathletes compete in the individual Elite Men’s and Women’s races, Para races and a Mixed Relay event while members of the local communities will also have an opportunity to participate.
The event has a number of age group and distance categories for adults, kids and athletes of determination – making it ideal for keen triathletes, first-timers or fitness enthusiasts to be part of the international competition.
The event offers distances suited to all abilities, including the Super Sprint Category, perfect for beginners, which consists of a 375m swim, a 10km cycle, and a 2.5km run. Additionally, there is a Team Relay Option, allowing teams of two to three participants to complete the course together, making it an inclusive opportunity for all levels of athletes.
Furthermore, the organisers have also announced that 30 Garmin watches will be awarded across five races, with the top three men and women in three triathlon categories, the Community Cycle 50km, and the Community Run each receiving a watch.
Strong line-up of elite stars
The 2025 season-opener has attracted a stellar field with Paris Olympics 2024 silver medallist Hayden Wilde, as well as rising stars Australia’s Matt and Portugal’s Vasco Vilaça (POR) among the stars set to line up in the men’s category.
In the elite women’s race, the line-up is equally matched, featuring a strong German contingent, led by Lisa Tertsch and Laura Lindemann. Gwen Jorgensen, the reigning Olympic champion will also be in action as well as defending champion Leonie Periault.
Race Village and Best Viewing Spots
Participants can bring their friends and family to watch them and the elite stars in action and cheer on the athletes during the races. The race course features key viewing spots to enjoy the best moments of the race including the Transition Zone where the athletes will switch from swimming to biking to running; the Final Stretch, where spectators can experience the adrenaline as competitors push for the finish line. They will also be able to witness the athletes receive their medals on the podium with these zones offering the best view of the races.
Away from the course, spectators and athletes will not be short of options for entertainment in the dedicated Race Village. As well as watching the races live on the big screen, there will be a variety of stalls showcasing some of the be triathlon products including the Blue70 range of wetsuits, STEALTH Isotonic gels, Rudy Project’s Eyewear and Helmets, HOKA’s exceptional running shoes, Factor bikes and Wolfi, who will have their experienced team on board to provide bike rentals and technical support.
The world’s best surfers in action – Surf Abu Dhabi PRO
As well as Modon World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi, Al Hudayriyat Island will also be the venue for the Surf Abu Dhabi PRO, the first WSL Championship Tour event in the Middle East that will being the world’s best surfers to the region for an unparalleled showcase of skill, power, and precision.
The Modon World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi is part of Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s on-going efforts to promote triathlon, giving opportunities for local communities to take part in the sport and live a healthy lifestyle.
