The Saudi Association of Midwifery (SAM) will host its 3rd Annual International Midwifery Conference in Jeddah from January 31 to February 1, 2025.
The international conference, seeking to raise the profile of midwifery as a profession and career choice, will bring together midwives, healthcare professionals, and experts from around the world – offering an opportunity for networking and the exchange of best practices while enabling the dissemination of evidence-based research relevant to midwifery with a particular focus on clinical practice, education, and leadership.
Some of the key themes that will contribute to enriching the conversation include risk assessments during the prenatal period; skills required for effective communication with the mother and her family; guidelines for midwifery and gynecological care; nutritional needs for a healthy pregnancy; as well as the role of the midwife in providing care during labor, postpartum, and family planning.
Dr. Roa Altaweli, President of the Saudi Association of Midwifery, said: “The 3rd International Conference of the Saudi Association of Midwifery serves as a vital platform for communication and knowledge exchange among midwifery experts from around the world, to discuss the latest developments in this vital field. The conference will highlight strategies for providing the best possible care to mothers and newborns, empower midwives to develop their skills and expertise, and contribute to enhancing health outcomes for mothers and children in the Kingdom.”
Dr. Nahed Sabry, Hospital Education Manager at Johnson’s Baby, a key partner to the conference stated: “As part of our ongoing efforts to support health outcomes for newborns, we are pleased to see the trend towards integrating traditional midwifery practices with modern medical technology in Saudi Arabia. We are honored to participate in this conference, which has in its earlier editions, significantly contributed to strengthening the position of midwifery as a cornerstone for improving the lives of mothers and their children. We look forward to hosting a special event during the conference that emphasizes the importance of improving the quality of care for mothers and their children, with the aim of building future-focused health systems.”
The Saudi Association of Midwifery was established in 2021 as the first professional scientific society specializing in midwifery in the Kingdom. It operates under the umbrella of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, as an extension of the Saudi Midwifery Group, which was founded in 2015. The Society is the official representative of midwives in the Kingdom to the International Confederation of Midwives. The Society’s vision is centered on leadership in the field of midwifery within the Kingdom while its mission is to empower midwives and advance their profession to improve the reproductive health of women, their newborns, and families.
