Gulf Golf Championship Kicks Off in Oman Amid Festive Atmosphere

The Ghala Golf Club in Oman witnessed the official launch of the Gulf Cooperation Council Golf Championship, with the participation of five Gulf countries: Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman. The tournament runs from December 21 to 24, 2024. The event was officially inaugurated by His Highness Sayyid Azan bin Qais Al Said, Vice President of the Oman Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Oman Golf Association, in the presence of several dignitaries and representatives of the participating teams.

In his opening speech, Ahmed bin Faisal Al-Jahdhami, Secretary-General of the Oman Golf Association, emphasized that the championship contributes to enhancing the skills of male and female players, while also nurturing and developing emerging talents. He added that hosting the championship in Oman reflects the commitment of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, along with the Oman Golf Association, to strengthening Gulf ties and advancing the level of golf in the region. He highlighted that the championship serves as a significant milestone in preparing a new generation of players capable of competing on continental and international stages.

Retired Major General Abdullah Al-Hashemi, Vice President of the UAE Golf Federation and a member of the Arab and Asian Golf Federations, praised the championship as a platform for promoting cooperation and unity among Gulf nations. He described Gulf Golf Championships as more than just a sports competition, noting their role in shaping future champions and fostering camaraderie among participants.

The technical meeting for the tournament was held earlier today, attended by representatives of the participating teams, where tournament regulations and schedules were discussed. The Oman Golf Association reaffirmed its full readiness to host the event, providing all necessary logistical and technical support to ensure its success.

This championship reflects ongoing efforts to develop golf in the region and foster competition among Gulf players. It aims to elevate the sport’s level and establish it as a prominent discipline on both regional and international stages. Concluding the ceremony, officials expressed their gratitude to all organizing bodies, sponsors, and participants, wishing the players success in their competitive journey
