His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stressed that the future vision of the Council’s countries is based on establishing a strong and diversified economy that contributes to sustainable growth and provides job opportunities for young people in the region.
“Therefore, strengthening cooperation between the Council’s countries towards economic integration and the exchange of expertise and knowledge are essential pillars for achieving this ambitious vision,” he stated.
This came during His Excellency’s speech at the 53rd meeting of the Industrial Cooperation Committee of the Council’s countries, on Thursday (October 31, 2024), in the Qatari capital, Doha. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Shaikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry in the State of Qatar – the current session president – and attended by Their Excellencies the Ministers of Industry of the Council’s countries.
At the beginning of his speech, His Excellency the Secretary General expressed his deepest thanks, appreciation and gratitude to His Highness Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar and the current president of the Supreme Council of the GCC, and to the Government and people of Qatar for hosting the meeting and for the facilities and support provided by the State of Qatar to ensure the success of the Cooperation Council’s work, and for the support and attention given to joint GCC work by His Highness and Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the Council’s countries.
During the speech, His Excellency praised the successful efforts made by the Industrial Cooperation Committee to enhance cooperation and industrial integration among the Council’s countries, in implementation of the directives and aspirations of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the Council’s countries.
“This reflects everyone’s keenness to develop the industrial sector as a key element in achieving sustainable development and economic prosperity in the region. The need to enhance manufacturing industries and increase the added value of available resources in the Council’s countries has become more urgent than ever, thus enhancing competitiveness in global markets,” His Excellency stated, adding: “Achieving this goal requires integrated strategies and advanced industrial policies that support innovation and encourage investment in modern technology and industrial infrastructure.”
HE the Secretary General also affirmed the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council’s commitment to providing all necessary support to enhance industrial integration among the Council’s countries, achieving the interests of the GCC peoples and strengthening the Council member states’ economic position on the international stage.
