HE the GCCSG: The Participation of the Cooperation Council Countries in the Activities and Committees of the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation Confirms Their Commitment to Supporting the Stability of Global Trade

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), emphasised that the participation of the Cooperation Council countries in the activities and committees of the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation confirms their commitment to supporting the stability of global trade. This is especially crucial in light of the economic fluctuations affecting their economies.
His Excellency began his statement by praising the efforts of the United Arab Emirates in hosting this important conference. He indicated that this hosting reflects the credibility and great international standing enjoyed by the United Arab Emirates. On the other hand, it also reflects its commitment to promoting the growth of global trade, creating new job opportunities, and raising living standards in developing countries. He stressed that this conference highlights the pioneering role of the GCC countries in supporting and sustaining the global trading system and renews their commitment to achieving the initiatives of the World Trade Organisation.
HE the Secretary General’s statements came during his participation in the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation, held on February 26-29, 2024, in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, with the participation of Ministers of Commerce from various countries of the world.
On this occasion, His Excellency emphasised the importance and role of this global forum as a crucial platform to address the most pressing commercial issues and develop innovative strategies to overcome the challenges of the present time. He also highlighted the need to adopt a coordinated approach to tackle trade challenges at both regional and global levels, and to seize the opportunities available to foster growth and development.
HE the Secretary General stated that the conference will cover topics related to the agricultural sector, food security, fisheries support, e-commerce, investment facilitation, and other issues. He added that these are subjects in which the GCC countries are directly involved and that they aim to benefit from the outcomes of these discussions to enhance their trade and food security.
