(Etidal) and (Telegram) removed 6 million pieces of extremist content in the first quarter of 2023.
Thanks to the joint cooperation between the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal) and (Telegram) platform, during the period from January 1st to March 30th 2023, a total number of 6,004,218 pieces of extremist content has been removed, and 1,840 channels spreading and promoting extremist ideologies belonging to three terrorist organizations (ISIS – al-Qaeda – Hayat Tahrir al-Sham) have also been closed.
Etidal’s team was able to identify and monitor the activity of the three terrorist organizations in Arabic on (Telegram) platform, which consist of: 2,773,902 pieces of extremist content in 477 channels belonging to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, 1,807,215 in 1,040 channels belonging to ISIS, and 1,423,101 in 323 channels belonging to al-Qaeda.
On 9 January 2023, the Etidal’s Monitoring Team recorded a peek in broadcasting activity on Telegram with 451,911 pieces of content being shared and refered to, and on 27 March, a peek in account creation with over 101 channels created in a single day.
It is worth noting that the joint cooperation between the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal) and (Telegram) platform continues for the second year in a row, bringing the number of what has been removed from February 2022 until now to 21,026,169 extremist content and closing 8,664 extremist channels.
