Software giant Bill Gates is talkative describing the merits and demerits of Artificial Intelligence, saying: “The future of AI is not as grim as some people think or as rosy as others think. The risks are real, but I am optimistic that they can manage the risks associated with AI”, He sees a future where AI could contribute to a more balanced work-life dynamic.

During a recent podcast interview with South African comedian Trevor Noah, Microsoft cofounder shared his perspectives about the future of the workforce, suggesting that artificial intelligence (AI) could lead to reduced manual work. As a result of AI, weekly working time could be reduced to three days in a week. Work necessity will be redefined. He foresees a future where machines handle tasks. He envisions AI contributing to a more balanced work-life perspective.

The 68-year-old entrepreneur envisions a future where AI will allow humans more leisure time. Positive potentiality of AI was the focal point in his 45-minute-long conversation envisioning a world of automation. In his opinion, AI will enhance productivity in various sectors. Programming, testing, and healthcare are some major examples. Gates also touched upon the role of AI in education and healthcare, citing its potential to address inequities globally.

Addressing the concerns of the general public peculiarly about AI taking over jobs, he stated that a gradual transition, supported by adequate government measures, could lead to a society where less manual labour is required. In his words, “If you eventually get a society where you only have to work three days a week, that’s probably OK.”

However, he cautioned against the misuse of AI, pointing out concerns about deepfakes and cyberattacks. Misinformation, security threats, job market changes, and the impact on education are also some other risks. He admitted the challenges or risks associated with technological explosion like AI.

He compared AI’s impact to the introduction of the personal computer and emphasized the need for similar adjustment by employers and employees.. He doesn’t think AI’s impact will be as dramatic as the Industrial Revolution, but certainly represents a radical change.“
