Masam Destroys 6,383 Explosive Items in Abyan

Project protects civilians by eliminating large quantities of unexploded ordnance

The Masam Landmine Clearance Project – Yemen carried out a major operation on Thursday in Wadi Dufas, Zinjibar District, Abyan Governorate, destroying thousands of unexploded remnants of war as part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard civilians and enhance community security.
According to a statement from the Masam Media Office, the Special Task Team 1 executed the operation, which destroyed 6,383 explosive items, including:
• 222 miscellaneous shells
• 523 miscellaneous fuses
• 5,551 assorted rounds
• 17 anti-personnel mines
• 6 anti-tank mines
• 36 bombs of various types
• 28 torpedoes
Special Task Team 1 Leader Munther Ahmed Qassim confirmed that the operation was conducted in a designated safe area, away from residential and agricultural zones, with full adherence to international safety standards despite the challenges on the ground.
“The Special Task Teams work year-round, given the critical importance of our tasks in protecting the lives of innocent citizens,” Qassim added.
Masam continues its humanitarian mission across several Yemeni governorates affected by landmines and explosive remnants of war, clearing land and helping restore safety to local communities.
