Organisers have been working around the clock to ensure that Yas Marina Circuit is fully prepared to welcome over 170,000 race fans from around the world as Yas Island gears up for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix week that will see the World Supercross (WSX) and F1 season finales hosted this weekend.
As Abu Dhabi prepares to close out the record-breaking 2024 calendar, Yas Marina Circuit is buzzing with activity, making sure that the four-day event will run like clockwork before the 10 team’s crews, 5 globally renowned music artists, VIP guests, celebrities, international media and, of course, the world’s best drivers arrive in the UAE capital.
To get the circuit looking its best for the estimated global TV audience of more than 100 million, a team of hundreds of cleaning and maintenance specialists, painters, gardeners and skilled technical experts have been busy ensuring the 5.28km track, Grandstands, fan zones, hospitality spaces, and landscaped areas are on point.
Ahead of the four-day sport and entertainment showcase on Yas Island, team of cleaners were busy removing dust from existing and impressive new Grandstands. Equipped with high-pressure hoses, the team spent a total of 6,920 hours cleaning the circuit’s 228 canopies in order have the venue ready to welcome spectators.
Specialists have been checking the circuit’s state-of-the-art LED lighting system, installed last year. The system has helped reduce power consumption by approximately 30 per cent, contributing to a 60 per cent decrease in emissions, and a new solar park is expected to further reduce Ethara’s emissions by at least 20 per cent annually when it comes on line soon.
Offering a beautiful splash of natural winter colour to visitors, Yas Marina Circuit’s 88.4 acres of landscaped areas have been spruced up as gardeners pruned and planted 2.52 acres of seasonal flowers and petunias, as well as more than 1,750 different kinds of foliage along with 886 varieties of Palms and 529 potted plants.
In the pit lane and paddocks, teams of motor racing experts and logistics specialists are managing the arrival of everything required to run the FIA Formula 1 race, FIA F2 Championship races, F1 Academy and the non-trophy F4UAE sessions.
Squads of highly skilled technicians and safety experts will inspect every inch of the Circuit as part of intensive final preparations to ensure the safety of the drivers, teams and over 170,000 spectators watching the F1 action unfold.
To prepare for the 36 F1, F2, F1 Academy and F4 UAE race teams arriving in Abu Dhabi, the circuit’s logistics team have been inspecting 227 rooms with more than 3,000 pieces of furniture, fittings or equipment, as well as 65 forklift trucks. In addition, Yas Marina Circuit’s team have been programming more than 200 access cards ahead of the teams’ arrival from the season’s penultimate race in Qatar.
